The iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable smartphone, launched in September 2026, marking the company's long-awaited entry into the foldable segment. It features a book-style folding design, runs on the same A20 Pro chip as the iPhone 18 Pro, and positions itself as a thin-and-light productivity device, though its pricing sets a new record for the iPhone lineup.

What Makes It Different?
The iPhone Duo is the thinnest iPhone Apple has ever made, measuring just 5.2mm when unfolded. It uses a Grade 5 titanium frame with a ceramic fiber reinforced structure, and the hinge is built from over 100 individual components for a precise, sturdy feel. When folded, the outer display is a 5.4 inch Super Retina XDR panel, and unfolding reveals a 7.6 inch inner screen that offers 50 percent more surface area than the iPhone 18 Pro Max, delivering a viewing experience close to an iPad mini.
The inner display uses a nano-texture
coating that reduces glare and cleverly disguises the crease that plagues most
foldables. Both screens support ProMotion adaptive refresh rates and up to 3000
nits of peak outdoor brightness, and they share the same aspect ratio so
content scales naturally between folded and unfolded states rather than being
awkwardly cropped.
For authentication, the iPhone Duo drops Face ID entirely and instead uses Touch ID integrated into the side button, which works in both folded and unfolded states. iOS 27 has been deeply reworked for the foldable form factor, bringing true split screen multitasking to an iPhone for the first time, with two apps running side by side and a Dock that shifts frequently used apps to the right edge for easier thumb reach. The device also supports Apple Pencil, letting you take notes and annotate on either screen.
On the environmental side, the iPhone Duo continues Apple's sustainability commitments, using 35 percent recycled materials overall, 100 percent recycled cobalt in the battery, and 100 percent recycled titanium in the hinge cover.
Indicative Pricing
In India, the iPhone Duo starts at 2,99,900 rupees for the 256GB model, 3,24,900 rupees for 512GB, 3,74,900 rupees for 1TB, and 4,49,900 rupees for the top 2TB variant. US pricing starts at 1,999 dollars. This is significantly higher than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, which starts at 1,79,999 rupees, making the Duo the most expensive iPhone in the lineup. Pre-orders open on October 16, 2026, with general sales beginning October 23.
Camera and Video Review
The iPhone Duo's camera setup reveals a clear trade-off. It carries a 48MP Fusion main camera and a 48MP Fusion ultra wide, but there is no telephoto lens at all, meaning users lose the optical zoom that Pro series buyers take for granted. More notably, despite costing 2,000 dollars, the Duo does not support ProRAW photo capture or ProRes video recording, two features that have defined the Pro lineup since the iPhone 12 Pro.
This means that in terms of
post-processing flexibility, the Duo's camera performs essentially at the same
level as a base iPhone rather than a Pro model. For creators who rely on tools
like Lightroom for professional color grading, this is a compromise worth
serious consideration. A hidden under-display camera sits beneath the inner
screen, supporting 1080p video and FaceTime calls, but its specs are noticeably
lower than the other cameras and it is intended mainly for video conferencing
rather than high quality selfies. The device also offers Duo Preview and Duo
FaceTime, two shooting experiences optimized for the foldable form.
