Ever wondered what makes a
Valentine date truly unforgettable? Is it the setting? The flavors? Or the
feeling of being somewhere extraordinary?
WHAT’S HOT IN MUMBAI recommends: a setting that unfolds
like a grand performance, where cuisine is conceived as art and executed with
immaculate precision, and dining becomes a theatrical narrative rather than a
transactional affair. Intimate, indulgent and unapologetically opulent, it is
designed for couples who cherish experiences over predictable gestures, where
romance slips effortlessly into the folds of refined luxury living.
This Valentine’s, don’t merely reserve a
table—curate a memory. Framed by an eclectic, irresistibly Instagrammable
ambience, the menu is thoughtfully orchestrated, the cocktails impeccably
composed, desserts decadently persuasive, and the service nothing short of
exemplary.
Our lunch at Oryn, Fairmont Hotel Mumbai unfolded
like a carefully composed sonnet—measured, lyrical, and quietly indulgent.
Nothing clamoured for attention; everything persuaded with poise.
Bowl of Oryn
The clear broth arrived as a whisper rather than a proclamation—goji berries
lending gentle sweetness, ginger offering warmth, and silken Mori-nu tofu
gliding through it all. A contemplative, cleansing overture to the meal, and
quite the perfect beginning.
The mocktails, meanwhile, were an essay in
refinement. Clarified ingredients brought crystalline brightness to every sip,
stripping away heaviness and leaving behind pure flavour—cool, poised, and
dangerously drinkable.
Zen Mist
Matcha and yuzu met vanilla and milk in a combination that sounded curious on
paper but proved unexpectedly delectable in practice—soft, citrus-flecked, and
quietly addictive.
Dragon’s Dusk
A theatrical procession of espresso, orange, lime and vanilla ice cream—each
flavour taking its turn in the spotlight, then yielding gracefully to the next.
A sensory journey, if ever there was one.
Melon Dew
Light, breezy and transporting—melon cordial and coconut water conjured
tropical reveries, the lime cutting through like a sea breeze in Hawaii.
Spiced Temple
Pineapple and milk provided the canvas, but it was the star anise that painted
the masterpiece—its warm spice lingering long after the glass was set down.

Here’s the
lowdown on the dishes we tried:
Steamed Chilean Seabass
Silken flakes of fish met the assertiveness of pickled chilli, black bean and
ginger. The balance was impeccable—heat restrained, savouriness pronounced,
every mouthful persuasive in its quiet confidence.
Hunan Chicken
Generous, beautifully cooked shreds of chicken slicked with Sichuan oil and
punctuated by asparagus—robust without being reckless, comforting yet
thrilling.
Four Treasure Vegetables
Broccolini, asparagus and water chestnut arrived vibrant and impeccably
fresh—each bite juicy, verdant and full of crunch, reminding one that
vegetables, too, can command a standing ovation.
Sichuan Noodles
Smoked chilli and garlic wrapped themselves around tender strands in precisely
the way one dreams of—aromatic, indulgent, and deeply satisfying.
Burnt Garlic Vegetable Fried Rice
A fragrant companion to the vegetables—nutty, smoky and perfectly calibrated,
binding the table together with quiet authority.

DESSERT
Zen Crunch
A finale worthy of applause: lemongrass-infused cake offering softness, the
snap cup delivering contrast, berries adding brightness, and mandarin sorbet
cleansing the palate between bites. An outstanding creation—every spoonful a
small celebration.
What elevates Oryn beyond its plates is the choreography
surrounding them. The service is prompt and attentively unobtrusive—glasses
refilled before one notices, plates cleared with a nod rather than a flourish.
The ambience, meanwhile, is delightfully eclectic: contemporary yet warm,
buzzing yet composed, a space that feels curated for lingering conversations
and long lunches.
In sum, Oryn trades in subtlety, but wields it
masterfully—flavours that entice rather than overwhelm, hospitality that
soothes, and surroundings that seduce the senses.
Our verdict? A resounding 10-star experience.
