How genuine are Amazon reviews?

Amazon is one of the leading shopping platform for most of us. We rely on the purchase quotient by going by the reviews for the product we want to buy.

HOW GENUINE ARE THE AMAZON REVIEWS?

But do you know that most of the reviews are rigged and almost fake. Amazon does have stringent policies for review updation on their portal. Yet you have business owners resorting to unfair practices to upgrade their review ratings.

HOW IT WORKS?

A business owner resorts to employing co-ordinators who manage to get bloggers and reviewers to post a 5 star rating for the product.  The reviewer orders the product on Amazon, posts a fake review and gets reimbursed for the purchase amount.

WHY DO BUSINESS OWNERS RESORT TO THIS?

Its a common perception with most frequent shoppers to go by the rating offered for the product before they purchase. Sales on a 5 star rating product are more since consumers believe that the product doesn’t have any complaints. In the bargain, the business benefits by showing more sales.

HOW TO SEE THROUGH FAKE REVIEWS?

Fake reviews normally are short with one or two words only and a 5 star rating. Although these dummy reviews are uploaded, some of them provide a frank rating. What you need to be able to gauge is the authenticity of every review you feel like believing.

You will be shocked that at times, even brand competitors resort to having fake and pathetic product reviews to tarnish the image of their rival. This happens when the product has the same quality and is available at a lower price.

DOES AMAZON EXERCISE CONTROLS WITH THEIR ALOGRITHIM?

Fortunately the Amazon algorithm is more stringent and tight when compared to its rivals, Flipkart and Snapdeal. If Amazon notices a splurge of sudden reviews on a daily basis for a particular brand, they stop approving the reviews. It also doesn’t get reviews deleted which look like a frank version. However if they find that a particular review is quite nasty, hitting below the belt or unnecessarily hurtful - they don’t publish the review.

HOW SHOULD SHOPPERS JUDGE THE REVIEW RATINGS?

Its best to review with an open mind. You can also ask a question which a professional business owner would reply to. Seek advice from a friend who has purchased to get a first-hand and honest review about the product.

More so, make sure you post your review too after a week about your feedback for the product.

Play safe if you are a smart shopper and don’t get conned by a 5 star rating.
