TOP 5 must-eat places in Shivaji Park

Shivaji Park is pre-dominantly dominated by a Maharashtrian community but you do have most cuisines available. Listing down the top 5 gets difficult but we have tried to offer one of the best in each niche to give a healthy flavourful choice to our readers. All these restaurants have been frequented regularly by our team and the consistency of flavours have always been retained.

The TOP 5 must-eat places in Shivaji Park are:

Tanatan

Shop 8 T- 13, Vidya Bhavan, Shivaji Nagar, Near Sena Bhavan, Dadar Shivaji Park, Mumbai

The much-needed void of a fancy, plush, fine-dining experience in Shivaji Park has been fulfilled by this restaurant. The menu is elaborate, the ambience is an Instagrammable delight and also they do have live music during the evening sessions.

What you must try here is Kozhi Ghee roast, Bhuna Chaap and Tanatan Masala fish fry. The vegetarian menu is also brilliant. The cocktails are worth a try too. On the dessert front, the gulkhand cheesecake is drool-worthy.

Ab’s (previously known as Anand Bhavan)

168, Near City Light Cinema, L J Road, Mahim, Mumbai

On a first look, this restaurant could easily pass off as a bar which is frequented by liquor lovers. Post the revamping of its brand name to AB’s, this outlet has come up with an amazing, classy menu and improved on the interiors too. They also have a separate family section in case you don’t want to sit downstairs with the ‘men’s only’ crowd.

What we really love feasting on here is their chicken biryani, which is loaded with flavours. We insist on being served gravy instead of the usual dahi raita. And this works wonders with the biryani. This dish is value-for-money and packs quite a big portion. The other dish we love here is the masala stuffed pomfret which will swoon you on the flavours. Their sister concern also serves coastal meal thalis in the afternoon. The Chinese fare is also good, so is the vegetarian menu which we always seek advice from the server.

Kailash Bhel puri house

Next lane of Citylight cinema, Shivaji Park, Mahim.

This outlet is one of the oldest bhel puri wala shops in Shivaji Park. More so, it is famous for its pani puri and dahi batata puri. What makes this place different is that unlike most pani puri stalls which serve chilled water, this one includes piping hot ragda with the room temperature water – this creates an amazing magic especially since the water is spiked with spices. Do make sure you inform your choice of ‘medium theeka’ initially before being served else you would surely be weeping in a teary manner.

You should also try their dahi batata puri and ragda pattice, and if they have stock for the dahi pakodi. The tamrind chutney is drool and you would almost ask the bhaiya-ji for more than one puri after you have finished eating.

Isn’t your mouth watering already?

Ekadashi Uphargruha

Shop No 1, Ground Floor, Kitte Bhandari Hall Building, Shivaji Park, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400028

We happened to chance upon this restaurant when it had just opened and were amazed at the low pricing for all its snacks. The team who was new to food delivery apps did not realise the chunk of profits which they would have to part with for deliveries routed through the app. In a month’s time, they did revise their pricing.

What makes us choose this restaurant is that the flavours provided are notches higher compared to the super-hyped  Aswaad and Prakash restaurants in the vicinity. We have always opted for home deliveries so can’t comment on the service.

What you must try here is – mini batata vadas, missal pav (bit spicy), thallipeeth, vatana pattice (must try) and Piyush. Truly authentic tastes and value for money!

Ashraya Veg Restaurant

Shop 15-16, Parekh Mahal, Dadar Shivaji Park, Mumbai

Another restaurant which has refurbished itself and the menu, Ashraya offers an exhaustive menu and some amazing discounts when you order from Swiggy. It isn’t one of those restaurants which reduces the quantities for online delivery orders, in fact you will be amazed at the portion size.

What you must try here is the methi chaman, lasooni kofta, mysore masala dosa (if it is a dine-in) and the dahi wada. They serve you two huge wadas with some slurpy sweet dahi which is worth the meal. There are loads of other dishes also which are supreme and you can make your choice.
