Is the ‘Tandav” web series controversy a publicity stunt?

Recently, Amazon prime web series ‘Tandav’ was in the news. Certain dialogues and scenes of the series were taken up by political parties for demeaning certain minority sections of the Indian communities.

#MumbaiHighLife did watch the entire series and we did find that the dialogues were hitting below the belt and were surely not welcome. However, the scenes pertaining to college politics don’t seem anything new which haven’t been portrayed earlier. Also the farmers protest is something which is a Current affair news and so that gained more importance for the political parties to take a stand on.

Bollywood directors have always been making film with a political backdrop. We see no harm in that since what is shown on screen is more realistic and still the information is somewhat curbed by the censor board. Off late, even AltBalaji’s web series was forced to delete scenes which portrayed an army officer in a ridiculous fashion.

WAS THIS A PUBLICITY STUNT?

In the case of the web series ‘Tandav’, the uproar against the show was surely not a publicity stunt. It was duly warranted and what we felt wrong was the director (Ali Zaffar) taking a harsh stand towards the Hindu minorities. Shame on him for allowing the usage of such words. As far as disrupting the country’s harmony, we believe that there is enough drama being shown on our news channels for the audiences. A web series cannot inspire or force our countrymen and women to go up in arms unless there is a political backing to the issue…just for their favour.

As we go in for publication, there are reports that the makers of the web series ‘Tandav’ have agreed to make the changes in the show. However the battle is won for Amazon Prime since this uproar surely increased the viewership of the show for them.
