WHAT'S HOT IN MUMBAI ventured, savoured and flavoured the newly, revamped fine dining restaurant TORII in Union Park, Bandra. Earlier, when we had reviewed it, we were zapped with the dynamism of the new menu, enticing flavours. Our recent trip will surely do down in our memory lane for giving us a dining experience which is par excellence when compared with the the best restaurants around the globe.

Having designed several restaurants in Mumbai and Pune, Celebrity Interior Designer Gauri Khan now effortlessly forays into the restaurant world with this distinctive new space in Union Park, Bandra. Gauri unveiled the restaurant along with restaurateur Abhayraj Kohli (Managing Director of the Pritam Group, which owns Grandmama’s Café amongst others) and entrepreneur Tanaaz Bhatia (Founder and Managing Director of Bottomline Media Pvt. Ltd., which represents some of Bollywood’s most successful names). 

The restaurant interiors showcase Gauri's distinctive design. The aesthetic shines through in the restaurant’s color palette. A combination of gold, black, and white, accented with touches of red and green, creates a visually stunning space. Her signature style is that of restrained glamour, creating highly sophisticated interiors which are welcoming and warm.

Torii’s exciting new menu is crafted by Chef Stefan Gadit, offering dishes influenced by his Canadian roots, Indian-Jewish heritage and thoroughly global approach to cuisine. Chef Gadit and his team take diners on a culinary adventure, treating taste buds to a smorgasbord of flavours. Here, ingredients are the hero and the flavors are enticing.

Our culinary experience has been a truly WOW element in our quest for the ultimate Connoisseur moment. Not to mention the skilled bar team of mixologists who have pushed the boundaries of mixology utilizing modern techniques.

TORII surely deserves a 10 STAR RATING from WHAT'S HOT IN MUMBAI. We validate this rating with the fact that our vegetarian counterpart has never been a Sushi fan. But here at TORII, the entire Sushi plate changed her perception to the taste and flavours of this much loved Japanese delicacy.

What we recommend:

Food – We started with the Dirty Torii Maki rolls. Each bite offered a harmonious fusion of flavors, with the perfect balance of tangy, savory, and spicy notes. From the freshness of the ingredients to the meticulous presentation, these rolls exemplify culinary excellence and leave a lasting impression on discerning palates.

The Chicken Yakitori was surely a juicy stunner. Each skewer boasted of tender, succulent pieces of chicken glazed with a delectable blend of sweet and savory sauces, grilled to perfection. With its irresistible smoky aroma and melt-in-your-mouth texture, Chicken Yakitori is a must-try dish that embodies the essence of Japanese culinary mastery.

The Charred Broccoli dish normally elevates the humble broccoli to a gourmet delight, showcasing the chef's skill in transforming simple ingredients into culinary marvels. Although we were served gigantic and fresh broccolis, somehow the juiciness and flavour levels noticed a slight dip. We agree the Chef's vision into the curation of this dish but a vegetarian would surely love the slight spike of juice and spice to this dish.

An ultimate dewy, luscious Corn & Spinach Yaki Gyoza dish transports you to ultimate sensational flavours. Each bite-sized parcel is filled with a delightful combination of sweet corn and earthy spinach, perfectly encased in a thin, crispy shell. Served with a tangy dipping sauce, these gyoza are a flavorful marriage of textures and tastes, sure to tantalize the taste buds of both vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike.

For the mains, we had the Truffle Mushroom Ramen. The flavours here were a profound deviation from most of the Ramen bowls we have earlier tried. Every spoonful of this aromatic broth delivers a symphony of umami-rich mushrooms, perfectly complemented by the decadent essence of truffle oil. With springy noodles and a medley of vegetables, this dish elevates ramen to a gourmet level, satisfying both comfort food cravings and discerning palates with its depth of flavor and elegant presentation. Don't miss on this one.


Chanoyu is a must-try for aficionados seeking a unique and memorable libation. An intriguing blend of spirits and citrus notes, this cocktail is a refreshing and nuanced drinking experience. We loved the presentation, the upscale making of the concotion and the ultimate transcending precision of this magical creation. The delicate garnish added to this cocktail beautifully balances tradition with innovation, making it a Showstopper.

Tang Yuan, another appealing drink that perfectly balances sweetness and spice, making it a standout choice for adventurous drinkers. Our first tryst with the Japanese sake and we loved the magic created using sweet potato flavours to it. We loved sipping on this one from the traditional Japanese miniature cups. A standing ovation for this one.

WHAT'S HOT IN MUMBAI strongly recommends a visit to TORII. The fine dining restaurant was crowded with kitty parties and birthday gangs celebrating their happy moments whilst enjoying the menu and superfluous service. We are surely visiting soon to try some nouveau dishes which we noticed on the menu. Till our next escapade, keep fine dining and enjoy some exotic cuisines and flavours.
