Why Women should do a Pap Smear Test?

Pap Smear – This test is commonly done by a Gynaecologist for screening for cancer of the neck of the womb ( Cervix) during internal examination. It helps to pick up the cells from the inner skin and then looked under microscope to pick up any abnormal cells. This test helps to identify pre- cancerous cells so that treatment can be initiated before cancer starts. One needs to do the test at least 3 yearly.

Recently HPV test is combined with Pap smear test as practised in developed countries. This combination gives more accuracy and allows increased interval (5 yrs) between two Pap test.
